The Ada Initiative
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing participation of women in open technology and culture.
By now, most people in open technology and culture have noticed the scarcity of women in their communities, and want to change that. They just don’t know how. That’s where we come in. Our strategy for change is simple: Give concrete, straight-forward advice to willing and eager audiences.

Census
The Ada Initiative Census is a periodic survey of women in the open technology and culture community, designed to “take the temperature” of women’s participation in open communities. Our goals are to learn what projects women are working on, and how women are treated in each community.
We use the results of this survey to help design other Ada Initiative projects. The census will be repeated from time to time to help us understand changes in the community over time.
The first Ada Initiative Census ran in March 2011, and we are in the process of discussing the results. For current results, see these blog posts:
For press enquiries about the census, please see our press page or email press@adainitiative.org.
